Fall Festival Guidelines & Requirements

  • Entry Fee: $15.00 per student
  • Student Classification
    Level I-A Kindergarten through Grade Four
    Level I-B Grades Five and Six
    Level II Grades Seven, Eight and Nine
    Level III Grades Ten, Eleven, and Twelve
    Level IV High School Graduates and Above
  • Eligibility: This is a judged, non-competitive event open to all levels and adults at any proficiency level.
  • Repertory Requirements:
    • The purpose of Fall Festival is to encourage the playing of contemporary music.
    • Students perform TWO COMPOSITIONS – one must be TRADITIONAL repertoire, and one must represent the CONTEMPORARY IDIOM. Please see the page “Thoughts on Contemporary Music” for help in determining appropriate contemporary repertoire.
    • Piano solo compositions must be from two different composers.
    • Combined maximum playing time for Levels I and II are five minutes or less. For Levels III and IV playing times are ten minutes or less.
    • Please choose pieces that are original compositions. Transcriptions, simplified arrangements, folk tunes, and adaptations of popular music are not acceptable as piano solo repertoire.
  • Memory Requirements: All music must be performed from memory with the exception of:
    a. Levels III and IV who play an avant-garde piece. Prior approval must be secured from the chairman.
    b. In the categories of organ, and piano duets.
  • General Regulations:
    • Teachers entering students must have paid current dues. A non-member may participate by paying the entry fee plus a fee of $25.00 per student. Application fees are not refundable.
    • Students may enter in more than one category. The fee is $15 for the first category and $5.00 for each additional category.
