WHAT IS RMTA?
The Richmond Music Teachers Association is a nonprofit organization representing music teachers in Richmond and in surrounding communities. The organization was established in 1973 and is comprised of music teachers who are currently or were formerly involved in music education in piano, voice, brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion, theory and composition.
The goal of RMTA is the advancement of musical knowledge through discussions, research, and performance opportunities for our students. We provide opportunities for music teachers to meet and exchange ideas and offer continuing education for members through an excellent series of workshops, which include topics in music literature, interpretation, psychology, technique and pedagogy.
Our students participate in local, state and national competitions including the Virginia Music Teachers Association Fall Festival and the RMTA sponsored Bach Competition.
Members include Nationally Certified Music Teachers who are recognized by the Music Teachers National Association for their professional and pedagogical competence.
IS RMTA AFFILIATED WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS?
The Richmond Music Teachers Association is a local chapter of the Virginia Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.
